International Association of Emergency Managers
What is IAEM?
The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) is a professional organization dedicated to 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Úthe principles, practices, and advancement of emergency management worldwide. IAEM provides education, networking, and professional development opportunities for practitioners and students committed to preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery, and community resilience. It is also the only international professional emergency management association authorized to grant the Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) and Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designations.

The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Student Chapter at 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿ÚState University, Long Beach supports the academic, professional, and leadership development of students interested in emergency management, homeland security, disaster preparedness, public safety, and resilience.
Our organization provides students with opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world practice through professional development, networking, service, and engagement with the emergency management field.

Membership
IAEM at 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú welcomes students who are interested in emergency management and related fields. Membership is open to all students who want to expand their professional knowledge, connect with peers, and become more involved in the emergency management community.
Chapter Activities
IAEM at 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú offers members opportunities to participate in a variety of academic, professional, and service-oriented activities, including:
- General body meetings
- Guest speaker presentations
- Tours of emergency management facilities, including Emergency Operations Centers, fire stations, police stations, and other related sites
- Career exploration and networking events
- Collaboration with campus and professional partners
- Participation in emergency management conferences and symposiums
- Student leadership opportunities within the chapter
Leadership Opportunities
911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú in IAEM at 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú are encouraged to take an active role in the organization. Leadership positions allow members to contribute to chapter growth, plan events, collaborate with campus partners, and develop practical skills that support future careers in emergency management and related professions. IAEM at 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú is also one of the few organizations on campus that promotes leadership opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.
