911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú IIPP Program Description

In 1973, the state of 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Úadopted its own safety and health program, as permitted by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970. The 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿ÚDepartment of Industrial Relations, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) establishes comprehensive occupational safety and health regulations that protect the working women and men of California. Title 8 of the 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿ÚCode of Regulations (CCR) mandates that all  911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Úemployers develop an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). The IIPP must detail the means and methods each employer will use to ensure the safety and health of its employees. Currently, this IIPP requirement is unique to California. As such, the working men and women of 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Úenjoy the unique protection and benefits required by this regulation.  911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿ÚState University, Long Beach (911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú) maintains its IIPP in full compliance with state requirements. The University also seeks to ensure that all of our employees and contractors are cognizant of the requirements of this regulation and that their health and safety is protected by this program.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program Scope

The 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is the cornerstone program for ensuring the safety and health of all 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú employees. The 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú IIPP provides the framework and context for the University’s overall health and safety program, and establishes the  University’s commitment to a campus culture that creates a safe and healthy environment for our faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors.  As required by 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Úregulation, all other safety programs and required training are governed by the principles set forth in the 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú IIPP. Training and inspection requirements for other enforcing agencies and/or certifying entities shall be harmonized to ensure compliance with 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Úrequirements and the requirements of the 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú IIPP. The 911³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏÃâ·Ñ¹Û¿´Èë¿Ú IIPP must be considered a dynamic document, and as such will be assessed by the campus as required to ensure that the processes, procedures, and responsibilities described in the IIPP are consistent with current regulatory requirements.
